Hon. Secretary's Message
Cherishing the past memories
My Dear Friends and well-wishers, Good luck to all of you.
Looking back to thirty six years, I could recollect the day of August 6, 1984 when in a small room handful of 6 children with hearing impairment gathered with only one teacher eager to grasp the lip movements and trying to utter a few words. No benches, no books, no blackboard but there was a will and determination. Gradually the children strength increased to thirty in few months thanks to the awareness of parents who realised the need to educate their deaf children. Till then, their educational needs were completely neglected on the presumption that it's a sheer waste to think about them because of their hearing impairment.
These unfortunate children used to be confined to their homes and surroundings only with little exposure to the external world. Most of the children were timid to go out to carry on their regular chores without the assistance of someone in the family. In short, independent living was completely absent. Never did they dream of any job opportunities.
By God's grace and with the kind cooperation of generous donors, the school for the deaf made a good progress. Classes from 1st standard to 10th standard were started. The Society secured Central Government grant from 1992 onwards. In 1994, as per the advice of the then Collector, a school for Mentally challenged children was also started with nearly 50 children. A Swiss agency by name "REHASWISS" came forward to extend financial support to this School. During this period, vocational training courses were also started in different trades with a view to rehabilitate these children. Book Binding, Dress Making, D.T.P., and Screen Printing courses were introduced. We feel proud to introduce our children as champions in classrooms, in athletics, Dance, Drawing and Painting and last but not the least, in Martial arts. Our tenth class passed students coupled with these trade skills, got employment in various government and non-government organisations, got married and are leading a Happy Life with children.
In 2016, the Founder Secretary, Shri Y. Vishnu, got A.P. State Award for his excellent services in the field of hearing impairment. In 2017, our organization got State Award for its services in the rehabilitation of the Hearing Impaired.
Our organization has been organising regional level Seminars and workshops on various topics pertaining to the rehabilitation of the physically challenged children.
Our children participated every year in the District level and State level sports and games competitions and won several awards at state level.
Our Society has been publishing its House Journal "LAKSHYA" since 2004-05 depicting therein the annual activities along with various articles pertaining to disabilities.
While concluding, I deem it fit to quote the words of Robert Frost:
"The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep."
Thanks for your kind cooperation and we always welcome your valuable suggestions and comments which carry immense importance for us for the overall development of our Organisation.
Yours Truly,
Y. Vishnu.
